Am 10. Mai 1935 erhängte er sich nachts in den Toilettenräumen der Gefangenenbaracke mit seinen Hosenträgern. Er hinterließ eine Frau und zwei Stiefkinder. Die Justiz stellte die Leiche dem Anatomischen Institut der Universität Münster zur Verfügung. Die Witwe erfuhr erst im Februar 1936 vom Verbleib des Leichnams.
